Photography, Video and Genealogy
Most people may wonder where the connection is between these three, but there is and quite a useful one.
I have had an interest in genealogy since I was at secondary school, and I have a history teacher to thank for sparking that - he suggested the challenge of starting to research my family tree and I took him up on that and I have not looked back or even regretted it. I have found literally a mountain of information and discovered so much about our family including that of my husband Peter's line, that would not have been known by living family members without the research being put in by various members of the family. Photographs have come to light too and we can see family resemblances in the old photos. But what has been the most interesting piece of information is that one of my ancestors whose name was John Dellabella (also spelt Della Bella), was a photographer in Preston, Lancashire for a short while. I hope one day to find some of his work, that would be really something! I sometimes wonder what he would think about how far photography and videography for that matter, has come.
Videos can be and are also a precious tool along with photography to aid genealogy, and provide the 'voices' to our family who may have since passed away and no longer with us. In future years these will be just if not more precious to our decendants and they learn about us and the things we did and how we enjoyed ourselves at family get togethers.
